Huron Valley Rec and Community Ed

Huron Valley Gymnastics is a recreational and competitive gymnastics program that offers classes to children ages 18 months-18 years. We offer fun, safe and affordable gymnastics for those looking to compete or learn a cartwheel. Staff consists of coaches with backgrounds in education, cheer, dance and gymnastics. Girls and boys are welcome in our toddler/preschool and school age programs. Toddler-Preschool Gymnastics- For boys and girls ages 18 months-4 years old. Students will get their first experience with the wonderful sport of gymnastics. Balance, strength, coordination, flexibility and confidence are just a few of the concepts we will work on. We will use all pieces of gymnastics equipment as well as fun preschool equipment. Parents may accompany child in the class. School Age / Recreational Gymnastics- For boys and girls ages 5-14 years old. Gymnasts will be instructed on all pieces of equipment. Strength, balance, flexibility, body awareness and confidence are all concepts we will work on. Beginning- Stretching, body positions, forward and backward rolls, handstand, cartwheel, bridge and skills on equipment will be worked on. If you can't do a cartwheel yet, this is the class for you. Intermediate- We will work on the skills listed for the Beginning class and start working on back walkovers as well as more difficult skills on equipment. Advanced- Gymnasts should be able to do a back walkover on the floor and working back handspring. This is our most advanced class before our competitive team.

This is an open-ended art class for your child to express themselves and explore with various art mediums. Our materials list is ever evolving! A sample of experiences include drawing, out of the box exploration with paint & color, watercolor and tempera paints, pastels, air dry clay, and working with various materials to empower a creative imagination. Building community is a value in this class, and collaborative art is encouraged throughout. Come see what the buzz is about in our thriving kids art community! A parent and child program for all ages! Price includes all family members in same household (please register just 1 family member). Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program allows parents to learn alongside their children. Physical techniques will be instructed along with drills and exercises, to help you have a positive experience with your self defense education. Sanchin-Ryu will teach you how to use your whole body, rather than just certain muscle groups, so size and stature are not an issue. Uniforms are available, but not required. Registration fees will be charged on 7/1/24.

This program combines two crucial courses into one, Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project: Secure Child (child safety). Students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. Participants will achieve great self confidence and leadership through the physical techniques, mental strategies, drills and exercises they are lead through. Uniforms are available, but not required.

We'll be exploring various slime recipes to create the most epic gooey, sparkly, and stretchy concoctions you've ever seen. And that's not all - we'll also be adding a splash of creativity with some painting and sculpting on the side. So roll up your sleeves and prepare for a super slimey time like no other! We’re upping our glam game so artists can make unicorns that shimmer, butterflies that sparkle, and other dazzling works of art! We’ll use clay, paint, real canvas boards, and so much more, but the best part is, each masterpiece will be covered in glitter! Please pack a nut free snack and drink for your child each day. Learn the fundamentals of soccer as well as the importance of teamwork through Youth Soccer. Everyone plays and everyone is part of the team. Kids develop important soccer skills, including passing, dribbling, shooting and working as a team in a fun and supportive environment. Not only will children have an opportunity to advance skills, but they'll also build social skills, gain confidence and develop leadership skills. Dedicated volunteer coaches are trained to set expectations and help kids find their strengths and improve. This is a co-ed league. Ages 4-5: Practice 25 minutes and Play 30 minutes on Saturday mornings. Practices: Begins week of Sept 2 assigned 1 to 2 practice/week (coaches will select practice days, Mon-Fri starting at 6 or 6:30 p.m.) Games: Sat. Sept 14-Oct 19 assigned 1 or 2 games/week, depending on the number of teams in each division. (Location: Carls Family YMCA), game times will be between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Divisions: Ages 6-8 and 8-11; if you have younger/smaller/newer players who are 8 years old, we suggest registering for the 6-8 division; if you have more mature/developed/experienced 8 year old then we suggest the 8-11 year old division. Coaches Meeting @ TBD Volunteer Coaches will receive a 25% discount on team fees (applied AFTER registration) Team Pictures will be on TBD @ the YMCA before/after your game that day. Team fees will include uniform top and a soccer ball. Other needed equipment will need to be provided by the families (soccer socks and shin guards). Team fees will be charged on 7/5/24.
